 Statement on NAPA
The Northern Academy is an all encompassing performing arts school covering all areas of dance including Classical, Contemporary and Street Jazz. The Academy has a highly motivated team of professional teachers, and contributes to the community with large scale involvement in danced out-reach work, specialising in special needs schools both PMLD and PPMLD. LEAP Dance Company also comes under the umbrella of the Academy, touring small scale dance productions and workshops to schools
in the region.
The Academy is also promoting its own exam syllabus entitled 'The Commercial Dance and Drama Awards' which is a syllabus aimed at alternative dance strategies and provides motivation for students who may be considered low achievers.
In September 2005 the Academy introduced its new full time teacher training course in dance, accredited by the ISTD. There are only six such courses in the UK, and the training covers Classical, Modern and Tap dance, also psychology and child development units. The Academy also offers a Foundation course in dance for students who may wish to take the ISTD Training course but have not achieved the necessary entry qualifications. The Foundation course is a Level 2 while the Teacher Training is a level 4.
